Since then, International Women’s Day has grown in significance and is now observed in many countries around the world. In 2022, only 63% of women would be internet users, compared to 69% of men, according to a forecast by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Based on a World Economic Forum (WEF) report, 75% of employment by 2050 will include a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) component. However, just 22% of roles in artificial intelligence, to name one, are held by women today.

Research conducted in 51 countries found that 38% of women had personally encountered online assault, according to the Gender Snapshot report from 2022.

Director General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay stated in her message for this year’s International Women’s Day that “there is a need to ensure that women and girls benefit from the opportunities provided by technological transformation while also ensuring equal footing. She stated that this year’s Day will focus on ‘innovation and technology for gender equality,’ noting that women are four times less likely to have advanced ICT skills, make up less than 20% of the tech workforce, and conduct only 12% of AI research.”
